Fourth Annual Reaching Out Conference

The fourth annual Reaching Out conference was held April 5-6 in Chicago, Illinois at the Renaissance Hotel. The conference attracted over 400 people from the nation’s top business schools and Fortune 100 corporations. In addition to the stellar number and caliber of attendees, there was a star-studded cast of corporate sponsors ranging from financial services (CSFB, JPMorgan, Goldman, Sachs,) to technology (Hewlett Packard, IBM, Motorola) to consulting (Bain, BCG, Booz Allen Hamilton, Deloitte Consulting, McKinsey & Co.

Senators McCain and Bayh Promote
Service to U of M Students

On Monday April 9, Senator John McCain and Senator Evan Bayh came to Hill Auditorium to promote their joint “Call to Service” bill, currently pending in the U.S. Senate. Former dean of UMBS and Interim President of the University, Joe White, introduced both gentlemen as having a “deep, long and strong” commitment to community service.

James A. Baker III:
“Business Ethics in Skeptical Times”

Last Friday, Former Secretary of State, James A. Baker III, came to the UMBS to speak about “Business Ethics in Skeptical Times”. His appearance marks the last lecture before the summer and drew a large and appreciative crowd at the Hale Auditorium. Secretary Baker is presently a senior partner in the law firm of Baker & Botts, senior counselor to The Carlyle Group, and serves on the boards of Rice University, the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, and a number of other nonprofit organizations.

As another academic year draws to a close, those of us remaining at UMBS are acutely aware that UMBS as we know it will change. Faces we’ve come to know and students who have provided constant inspiration and guidance will be replaced by fresh faces and BBA/MBA classes with their own distinct personalities.
