Entrepalooza 2008 brought together accomplished entrepreneurs with aspiring ones on September 19th. Organized by the Samuel Zell & Robert H. Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies (ZLI), this year's event at the Michigan League attracted over 400 attendants.
If you wander around the b-school these days, you're likely to see students huddled around laptops pouring over websites full of statistics and formulas, speaking in hushed tones into their cell phones or intently reading the latest headlines in the newspaper.
Michigan football was off this past Saturday, and what did you Gunners do with your spare time, you sat around sipping Zima, playing Magic: The Gathering with the rest of your Gunner friends, and practicing how to best utilize your buzzwords. This past Thursday night began as most have this school year-at Scorekeepers. As usual, the crowd seemed excited by the free beer and nachos; however, there was a recognizable difference in the tone of the night. While the change may have been due to a higher number of undergrads attending happy hour, a number of MBA students dressed in country western attire took over the bar and used happy hour as the perfect pre-party before the bus to Diamondback Saloon.
Back in April, I got my collection of short stories called Book in Black published. But with very little support from the publisher, when it came to getting the word out on my book I felt just like a leaf on a tree in a Michigan December: alone and all shriveled up - "I was in the pool!" The first thing I did to let people know about my book's upcoming release was to simply tell them about it.
