On Friday and Saturday, October 27?28, the Ross School campus will be visited by approximately 1,000 alumni and their guests, who will be reliving their nostalgia and re-engaging with the school. It's time for Reunion 2006!
Graduates from all over the U.S. will convene here to celebrate their Michigan memories and gape at the big hole that will eventually become the new Ross facility. There will also be participants from elsewhere in North America and from Europe, Asia, South America, and other places around the globe.
Anniversary Classes will celebrate their 20-year, 25-year, 30-year, 40-year, and 50-year Reunions in the Michigan Union on Friday night with live music and good food, welcomed by Dean Dolan. The 5-year and 10-year Reunion Classes will gather at private parties in Conor O'Neill's and the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum, respectively, to catch up with old friends and see their former professors.
All alumni are invited to Reunion, not just the classes celebrating landmark anniversaries. Some come for the professional development offered by the Reunion Business Lecture, which takes place on Friday afternoon at 1:30 PM in East Hall. Professor Richard S. Tedlow of Harvard University will entertain and enlighten the audience as he did last spring at the McInally Lecture, this time discussing "Andy Grove: The Life and Times of an American," his new book about the co-founder of Intel. Other alumni always attend the traditional Tailgate Party before the football game on Saturday, which will be held at the Wolverines' indoor football practice facility, Oosterbaan Fieldhouse.
The involvement of the campus community is key, and this year students play an important role. As in previous years, students will help by conducting alumni tours around the school on Friday afternoon, meeting in the Executive Residence Lobby at 12:30 PM. Students also are being recruited to attend the Alumni-Student Career Event, where they meet alumni working in their field of interest over lunch. In addition, this year we are counting on the help of numerous students to greet and guide alumni at the Tailgate Party, where Anniversary Class groups will be seeking each other, kids will be tossing footballs with former UM football players, and Ross branded merchandise will be sold. Since this event is away from our campus and within walking distance to the Stadium, student support will be critical.
Thank you to the students who have already committed to participating in Reunion 2006. And anyone else interested in helping may volunteer by contacting the Reunion Team at reunionteam@umich.edu. When it's time for your Reunion, you'll be glad you did! For more information on Reunion, see our website at www.bus.umich.edu/reunion2006.
