It's mid-December, and although the football season is over, the recruiting season is well under way. In addition, the basketball and hockey seasons are starting up. Here is an overview of Michigan athletics at this point in the year:
Football
A slew of problems halted the Wolverine's win streak in the early going and sent them on a season-endng tail spin for the ages. Despite the awful finish to the regular season, the off-season is looking bright so far. Amid the search for a new athletic director, Rodriguez's job appears to be safe for the moment. Michigan currently has a top 15 recruiting class, including number one dual-threat quarterback prospect Devin Gardner, from Inkster, MI, and top 10 cornerback Cullen Christian from Pennsylvania.
Men's Basketball
The Wolverines have been somewhat of a disappointment so far this season as they sit on a measly 4-4 non conference record. With Kansas and Big Ten play coming up, the team will have to find it's offensive rhythm and solidify its defense pretty soon. Hopefully the tune-up game against the hapless Detroit Titans will give the team the confidence boost they need to be competitive with the elite teams they will face in the upcoming weeks.
Hockey
Wolverine hockey has also been off to a rough start. The Wolverines were predicted to finish number one in the CCHA, but after experiencing some early season struggles, they now find themselves 10th with 12 points in league play. Good news, however, is that they just beat Notre Dame, which is another team that is struggling compared to lofty expectations. Expect the team to be back in top form soon and make a run for the championship.
